5~26~20
So I'm trekking through a NOES marathon, and I finished Freddy's Dead. And I dig the song by Iggy Pop at the end (and obviously we have Dokken for Part 3), and then it dawned on me, outside of the James Bond songs/theme, which most are balls mahoney, when is the last time a band/musician made a song for a movie? Obviously musicals don't count. I'm sure I'm just not thinking of em, but we used to do that shit back in the 80's and 90s.

Re: 5~26~20
It's a good question when did that stop? Disney and Pixar movies still do it but I cant think of anything else.

I figured you'd dig the question more than most, Tigg, because I also know you're in the Bond camp where most those themes are garbage. The last song I'm reminded of is Limp Bizkit's Take a Look Around from 2000, for MI:2. And again they were going for a Bond thing, but I'll take it.

Irony/weird coincidence, one of the last big songs written for a movie I can remember is Goo Goo Dolls Iris, who also wrote a song for Freddy's Dead. I dig both songs, btw. Goo Goo gets too much shit.

Iris wasn't about City of Angels at all either (unless you were thinking about another Goo Goo Dolls song that I'm not aware of for a movie)Reign in Blood wrote:I thought of too, but Aersomith just aped it, written by Diane Warren not about the movie at all.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:One of the last non bond/Disney/Pixar/Musical ones I can remember is Aerosmith/Armageddon's I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing

Re: 5~26~20
Didn't one of the guys from Nickleback do a Spider-man song? I remember it just being really mediocre, but now I can't even think of a band/rocker writing songs for movies past 2002.
I also didn't think of Annie Lennox for Return of the King because it wasn't a rock song/band sort of thing. That was more of the traditional singer/Josh Grobin/Celin Dion sort of thing.

Just looked at the Spider-man 2 soundtrack and didn't recognize a damn thing lol. Other than two tracks dedicated to Danny Elfman's awesome score. Guess studios stopped pushing that sort of thing by that point.

Nah, I remember Reznick talking about how he wrote that in a deep depression, and everything just came out (guitar, lyrics, everything). The movie Studio decided to use it later.Reign in Blood wrote:Those motherfuckers ape that too?DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Iris wasn't about City of Angels at all either (unless you were thinking about another Goo Goo Dolls song that I'm not aware of for a movie)Reign in Blood wrote:I thought of too, but Aersomith just aped it, written by Diane Warren not about the movie at all.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:One of the last non bond/Disney/Pixar/Musical ones I can remember is Aerosmith/Armageddon's I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing

That was just Nickleback getting thrown on the soundtrack and they did a music video.DancesWithWerewolves wrote:Didn't one of the guys from Nickleback do a Spider-man song? I remember it just being really mediocre, but now I can't even think of a band/rocker writing songs for movies past 2002.

Annie Lennox counts, I'd think.

Humans Beings & Respect The Wind are still great contributions from Van Halen for Twister (though I'm not sure if HB was written for it or not, but Respect Was...but not a songy-song)

I'm talking Dream Warriors, here, motherfuckers get in the studio and throw down a jam specifically for the movie.
