Tried pointing this out at work, and they were like "nooooo no no that's BS". They couldn't respond to me pointing out that winter is shrinking and summer is widening.showa58taro wrote:Why won’t it get cooler? It is almost like the climate is *puts on sunglasses* . . . Changing

I'm not denying climate change I just don't need to be reminded about it every time it's hot or cold or raining. People suck in general but really bad when it comes to the Earth.

I can see that though.Tiggnutz wrote:I'm not denying climate change I just don't need to be reminded about it every time it's hot or cold or raining. People suck in general but really bad when it comes to the Earth.
I also hate when I'll bitch about my heat or humidity, and some bastard from Florida has to mention how their humidity is worse, to downplay mine. Like, I didn't say mine's worse than everyone's, I'm just saying it sucks.

My wife has joined the Green Party to advance the green agenda. I vote for them locally for their push towards energy in the borough and recycling. Hoping it can make a difference, however small. Increasingly though all I read is about how we may be on the brink beyond which there may be no coming back.

Did you read the NY Times piece? Depressing as hellshowa58taro wrote:My wife has joined the Green Party to advance the green agenda. Yup. It’s depressing as hell. I have a big cohort of friends directly involved in research around different aspects of climate change and their posts are pretty bleak. The old feeling of “science can find a solution” looks increasingly like a folly. Instead the constant news about coral reefs, sea temperatures, and extreme weather is just a starter for 10 for the misery that’s coming our way. Makes me sad for my daughters.Headhunter wrote:Did you read the NY Times piece? Depressing as hellshowa58taro wrote:My wife has joined the Green Party to advance the green agenda. Even if we weren't past a point of no return, there are now too many people in the world who don't put any stock into facts if those facts upset them. Up can be down, left can be right if it makes them feel good. Brave new world we're a part of.showa58taro wrote:Yup. It’s depressing as hell. Too many humans on earth right now but nature has a way of restoring balance. Humanity will be nothing in the great scheme of things than a parasite that needed to be removed.

Sometimes I'm not sure whether to take some level of fucked up pride in how capable we are of changing, sometimes destroying, everything around us or to be horrified by it. We're incredible beings with some frustrating fatal flaws. A superior being would probably have a good laugh at the patterns we always fall back into.Tiggnutz wrote:Too many humans on earth right now but nature has a way of restoring balance. That’s the downside to being a bit of an optimist at heart, I rather hoped things would genuinely get better. Between Paris, Kyoto, science and a general sense of self preservation somewhere I thought it would click. Add the infinite upside to green tech and the downside to fossil fuels and it’s such an obvious choice. But I seem to have gotten that wrong as far as the world goes. Just more bickering. If Kubrick was around his take on it a la Dr Strangelove would be depressingly excellent.

Yup. Because the best part about science is that we stopped moving forward since 1963Jason wrote:There was an ice age scare in the 70s too. Yawn.showa58taro wrote:Lol. It amazes me just how unenlightened Jason is.
Take no offense, homie.

Science has been historically wrong. Earth is flat, Venus is 400 degrees Fahrenheit (actually more than twice that hot), the moon is made of cheese, etc...showa58taro wrote:Yup. Not saying that is a bad thing at all, but if it should teach us one thing, it's to not be up in arms about some "new discovery!". A lot of these studies are funded by billionaires, much like a massive political campaign donation in exchange for a favor. This should automatically raise those skepticism flags. Take it as it comes, 12-21-2012 is coming!
