(Reviewed by Snake-666) - Average Supernatural
Mystery. I've happened to catch this flick a few times now and
each time I have found it a half-ok film. By no means is this film anything
pathetic and by no means anything exceptional but it is still a rather
watchable supernatural thriller.
Demi Moore plays Abby Quinn, a pregnant woman, who rents out her garage
apartment to a mysterious man called David. It would seem that David is a
strange chap indeed, almost obsessed with the unborn child to the point
where it seems he's trying to take it's soul. And as the movie progresses
the forthcoming apocalypse becomes almost inevitable. How is David involved?
Watch the movie lol.
There are obvious flaws in the script which become more apparent as the film
goes on, and the ending was somewhat ridiculous, nothing like what I
expected to happen and unfortunately that wasn't a good thing this time.
It is fairly obvious to all that The Seventh Sign was influenced by the
classic Rosemary's Baby, however, unlike Rosemary's Baby this film showed no
tangency with the every day world and that was one of the things that made
it less disturbing than it possibly could have been.
In my opinion the film was underdeveloped and more time should have been
spent developing the script and storyline. Demi Moore (Abby Quinn) and
Jurgen Prochnow (David) both played their parts extremely well given the
poor script that they were given to work with, and it is probably because of
their performances alone that the film was watchable.
I wouldn't recommend this film to anyone if they were after a really
chilling supernatural film (Rosemary's Baby, The Omen, The Haunting (1963)
are far better), but for fans of borderline camp, watchable but not special
films maybe they should check it out. It's nowhere near as bad as a lot of
the films that get mentioned, but nowhere as near as good as others. |
