(Reviewed by Snake-666) - Worth seeing for serious
slasher and casual horror fans alike! I actually found this to be
quite a neat little slasher, despite expecting some super-cheesy,
girls-in-underwear slasher. Obviously there was a lot of female nudity in
the film but that didn't take away from the actual story.
The plot is centered around a girl called Beth. She has recently moved into
a sorority house after recently losing her aunt. Her aunt had brought her up
since she was very young, and as one of the sorority girls said, it was like
she had lost her mother. Since she moved into the sorority house, Beth has
started experiencing terrifying visions and daydreams as well as shocking
nightmares. All the visions are about a knife wielding maniac stalking her,
and trying to kill her. Meanwhile in a psychiatric unit a patient has
started experiencing visions of his own...about Beth. What is the connection
between them? Watch the movie to find out!
It's at this time that some of the sorority girls are going away for a bit,
so the remaining girls decide to take advantage of the situation...in come
the guys, and the party supposedly begins...
I'm actually glad I saw this movie. It obviously borrowed from such hit
slashers as 'Halloween' yet managed, in a way to keep it's own particular
brand of originality. Much is made during the film of psychic ability and
clairvoyance. 'Sorority House Massacre' is one of the few slashers that also
does quite well in pulling off genuine tension and delivering shocks. While
the movie itself is not terrifying, if you allow yourself to be immersed in
the story it's quite gripping.
The acting, sadly, is sub-par. Angela O'Neill who played 'Beth' actually did
quite well, but one has to question her acting ability when it came to
continuous dialogue. She managed to perform well when she was required to be
scared though.
Although the girls do indeed take their clothes off during the film and are
quite poor actresses, they manage to do something that many slashers fail to
do. They actually portray likeable characters and aren't the type you want
to see sliced off straight away.
Considering the budget the film was pretty well made as well. The directing
was quite accomplished and the finished product a quite well made slasher
film. I'd say this is a film definately for the fans of 80's slashers and
casual horror fans in general. 7/10 |
