Bloody Disgusting has learned that IDF, an Italian production company owned by actress Maria Grazia Cucinotta, has begun principal photography on ‘Tulpa’, the eagerly awaited third feature from Federico Zampaglione.

‘Tulpa’ is based on a story by genre veteran Dardano Sacchetti, with a screenplay by Giacomo Gensini and Federico Zampaglione.

Variety is reporting that director Mike Flanagan is at work on a new film titled ‘Scare Dares’, re-teaming with the producers and much of the cast (Courtney Bell, Katie Parker, Justin Gordon, and Morgan Peter Brown) of his last feature, ‘Absentia’.

‘Scare Dares’, described as an “adrenalized homage to classic horror films”, centers on a smartphone app that leads users to known areas of paranormal phenomena in central California. Things go wrong when a group of estranged friends kick off a reunion weekend by visiting ghostly hotspots and engaging in occult dares.

Producers plan to launch an actual smartphone app that will tie in with the pic, which will be a blend of narrative and “found” footage.

Fallback Plan is producing along with Mali Elfman.

Deadline is reporting that Anthony Michael Hall (’The Breakfast Club’, ‘Weird Science’), Mickey Rourke (’Sin City’, ‘The Wrestler’), and Danny Trejo (’Machete’, ‘Desperado’) are set to star in ‘Dead in Tombstone’.

The film is directed by Roel Reine from a script by Shane Kune and Brendan Cowles (with revisions by Michael Weiss). Filming is set begin in Bucharest, Romania next week.
