This next weekend will see the Boobs and Blood film festival take place at the New Beverly Cinema in Los Angeles. If the taglines are to be believed (and the article from Dread Central that tipped me off about this) then this is a festival for those who are big fans of the Japanese Pink films, the old Grindhouse genre, and what has been described as “Psychotronic Kitch” which is a term I want to use because it sounds funky but could not begin to guess what it is about. The festival itself has a website  with a lot of news and updates. The festival has already managed to book a number of notable guests who are associated with the various films on display, and has collected a seriously impressive list of films. One to boast of is “the only remaining print of Fred Olen Ray’s 80s classic “Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers”" (DreadCentral) which is in and of itself impressive. Made moreso by the attendance of Ray and star of the film Michelle Bauer. The full breakdown of the festival is available on their website. Tickets are also available for purchase from here

One thing that the festival certainly seems to have at its foreground is a lighthearted atmosphere for horror fans. There have been many arrangements made for guests to have Q&A sessions, for horror-themed band “The Coffin Girls” to be in attendance and to perform, as well as opening performances by Suicide Girls in association with their latest release. As if that wasn’t enough, the festival has said it is willing to let guests try for autographs, ask about future projects, or even try to nab some of the talent on display. I know that there should be no shortage of funky horror films, or interesting people to talk to. And for those who are collectors of various memorabilia, the event has stated that it will be selling a variety of pins, collectors cards, posters, and other various items. Obviously purchasing one and then having the star of the item sign it is always a fun bonus.

For those in doubt about how good an event like this would be, the simple fact that it has a full day dedicated to Lesbian Vampire films (such as Vampyres starring Anulka Dziubinska (See Above)) should surely wipe away any doubts. A full day of sexy violent goodness is surley a recipe for success.

Of course some will note the obvious inclusion of films such as Pervert: The Movie as somewhat obviously gratuitous and surely lacking in quality. To be honest, if you had that thought, this festival might not be for you. For the rest of the horror world, tickets are on sale so get them quick.
