Variety is reporting that King Kong is headed back to theaters in a prequel titled ‘Kong: King of Skull Island’.
The upcoming film is based on a novel which came out around the same time as Peter Jackson’s recent big budget remake.
The novel centers on the backstory of Skull Island and how the giant gorilla became king there. It introduces other giant gorillas and dinosaurs only hinted at in the previous films.
Spirit Pictures will be handling ‘Kong’, which was penned by Joe Devito and Brad Strickland. The plan is to produce the film using motion capture technology such as Robert Zemeckis used to make ‘The Polar Express’ and ‘Beowulf’.
