ETonline has reported that ‘High School Musical’ star Vanessa Hudgens is set to star in ‘Beastly’ from writer/director Daniel Barnz.

The upcoming film, from CBS Films, is a modern-day retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and is based on the young adult novel by Alex Flinn. Read on for the synopsis.

Set in Manhattan, the movie tells the story of a handsome rich kid with a mean streak. When he ditches a date, a curse is placed upon him, turning him into everything he hates. The grotesque transformation leaves him with the seemingly impossible task of finding true love to break the ugly spell.

In addition to ‘Beastly’, Hudgens is set to star in other horror/thriller titles such as ‘Dead @ 17′ and ‘Sucker Punch’.
