Well despite the average DVD cover for this film, I must say that this is one of the best ‘Direct To Video’ Horror films i’ve seen this year. The story is simple, Jack is on the edge when his sister tried to hang herself. She is then committed to the local Mental ward, leaving Jack with only one plan to save her. Jack has to manage a scheme to get himself committed to the same ward. Well with a little self mutilation, crazy talk and being in public, Jack is on the right path to his goal. Once inside Jack is treated like a patient, even though he’s not of course. Soon Jack finds his sister, after he is put into the daily patient “hang-out” room, where all the “crazy” people meet. Oh this movie has it’s crazies too, whether it’s the lady with the cut along the right side of her face while screaming rape, or the Serial Killer locked away in Max-Security. But this movie wouldn’t be anything without a Scientifically mad Doctor who is using a new drug on his patients, in which turn them into blood thirsty killing machines. After an incident between Jack and his sister, Jack breaks character and asks to speak with the Dr. Gianetti. Which doesn’t turn out the way is was suppose to. With the help of Dave, (A patient Jack made friends with) they set out to find Jack’s sisters room and escape this Ward. At the same time Dr. Gianetti’s experiments are becoming more of a problem, due to the fact of a few rabid bites, a mutilation of a Cat and the hunger for BLOOD!!! Then once we manage to think we have this film figured out, it takes that sudden turn in the road leaving you on the edge of insanity yourself. All Hell soon breaks loose, as the patients soon escape causing a Tornado of Blood and Entrails to be unleashed upon your eyes. If the patients can’t find someone to kill and eat, they turn on themselves. From this point it’s a bloodbath to the finish, as Jack and everyone who isn’t infected tries to flee this nightmare. Overall, even with it’s lack-luster DVD cover “Insanitarium” manages to pull no punches when it comes to delivering the Gore. Even with the small budget the film may have had, the film-makers put everything up on the screen. Once the movie was finished I thought to myself “This may be the most bloodiest film i’ve seen this year” and believe me I’ve seen enough this year and this little saying never came up when i was watching them. On that note, if your a fan or can’t get enough of Gore with a minor story involved you’ll no doubt enjoy “Insanitarium” because its an onslaught of artery spray and dismemberment, that will leave you soaked.
