ShockTilYouDrop has learned that Platinum Dunes is officially set to remake Wes Craven’s 1984 horror classic ‘A Nightmare on Elm Street’, from a script by Wesley Strick. (Cape Fear)
Platinum Dunes’ Brad Fuller had this to say.
It’s like what we’re doing to ‘Friday the 13th’, It;s not Freddy cracking jokes. We want to make a horrifying movie. The concept is so scary, don’t fall asleep or you’ll die. This guy gets you when you’re most vulnerable, in your sleep. We love that. That’s the basis of the movie. It’ll be most similar to the first one but in terms of kills and dreams we’ll borrow from the entire series.”

It being overly obvious is resulting in that they seem to be playing it too safe. Where’s the balls that the Cronenberg remake of The Fly or Carpenter’s The Thing where they opted to take things to another level? Potentially at best, this could be like the Hills Have Eyes remake where it’s so similar to the original its hard to hate it.
