Dances with Werewolves-
I think the ending to Them was great, but I am not even saying it was great as a whole. I think it would have made a brilliant short film since the last 11 minutes or so was the only important part of the film. I agree that the characters were very much lacking. Funny Games is an uncomfortable film and I think it does a lot of things right, but I know a lot of people who don’t care for it much and those who love it. I just felt that the strangers didn’t have much to offer once you got past the initial creepiness of the killers.

Well I am glad you enjoyed it more than I did. I can credit the ending with being one of the bolder aspects of the film.

I know for a fact down here in the small town of Brookings, South Dakota, about 14% of the entire town loved The Strangers, including me. I saw it in the big screen, and I thought it was amazing. The Cat and Mouse game got a little old, Liv Tyler’s action got a little rough towards the end, but the ending itself was pure gold to me. Not many movies have that type of ending, none come to mind in fact.

I think Them is a lesser film, and no where as effective, though I them in backwards order. Them just didn’t do much at all for me, lacking characters and atmosphere. I think it had a good beginning and end, but dull middle, basically. I don’t see “unoriginal” as a flaw anymore because everything’s been done before in some shape or form, now it’s just trying to do things better. I’ve yet to see Funny Games, but if it’s supposedly as “great” as Them, I can wait.

I thought the silence and unknown motives of the killers was creepy. I just didn’t think there was enough going on during this point to keep your interest. What we were seeing was nothing new and there was just added music to make up for it. I just felt that the film was very unoriginal and didn’t bring much to the table of its’ own. I even think ‘Them’ was flawed, but it is a much superior film than this. Them and Funny Games seem like much better films to watch on the subject than this. I did enjoy the performances quite a bit and given the material they were given I think the actors hit all the right notes.

I think this is deserving of a B grade, I found it pretty well done and atmospheric, but not especially great. The performances are the best part of the movie.
