Couldn't have said it better myself. I completely agree with this. Sadly, the internet is flooded with dip shits who like to whine, bitch, complain and throw fits over remakes and sequels. Go to several sites with a user comments section and you'll see lots of "Nooooooooo", "Why can't Hollywood come up with something original", "Enough with the remakes!", etc. Sure, there's lots of sequels, but really, stop and think about it; How many remakes come out a year compared to anything else? I'm sorry, but I'd rather see a remake then a dumb Ashton Kutcher or Martin Lawrence or Larry the Cable guy or half of the shit that's put in theaters. Some other remakes should be made note of like the fan favorite gangster flick 'Scarface'. Let's not forget about John Carpenters 'The Thing', David Cronenbergs 'The Fly', Martin Scorsese's 'The Departed' & for shits and grins, I'll throw in Sam Raimi's 'Evil Dead 2'. Some remakes announced do seem odd, like 'RoboCop' and I couldn't imagine a 'Die Hard' remake, but I think the people who bitch about remakes are blinded by the few shit ones like 'When a Stranger Calls' & 'Prom Night'. There's nothing wrong with remakes, just lots of dumb people with internet access and closed minds over re-acting to them like they're a new fucking trend.

It became age of the remake when Hollywood slowed down on the sequels.

I think it is more of an internet surge of knowledge/bitching about the wave of remakes. It's really not much different from the 70's/80's with their remakes, and even the 50's, with the abundance of remakes there, other than the fact we have regular studio updates on the net. And yes, the name attached does get bigger hype, it has a lot to do with built-in fan bases.

I have no problem with remakes as long as they're good or warranted. A remake of a foreign film makes sense to me because I'm an ignorant westerner hehehehe. It's not quite the same as remaking a film that is a mainstream (or successful indie) classic and is only just 10 - 20 years old or whatever. I also object against remakes (or even sequels for that matter) being targeted suddenly at younger audiences for increased ticket sales all at the expense of the adult content the originals had.
Although this article is quite correct and well written, to bitch about ALL REMAKES is ridiculous since they have been around for some time and are not always bad ideas (Amityville) but it just gets me when there's no real reason for it (Child's Play).
