Brandon Cronenberg is headed into familiar territory, dabbling in the body-horror genre that his father, David Cronenberg, is known for. Fangoria recently reported that Brandon has completed a short film titled ‘Broken Tulips’, and stars Ryan Kelly in the lead role. Keep reading for more info on the film.

The synopsis for the film is as follows.

The picture spins the quietly unsettling, icy-cool tale of a young man who, obsessed with a nameless, coveted Hollywood starlet, opts to have himself infect with a herpes-esque disease in order to have a connection with her.

Brandon had this to say about his upcoming film.

The initial thought behind the film came to me during a fever dream. I was very delirious, and floating on the physicality of illness–on how there were actual physical virons in my system that had been bred in someone else’s body, and the sort of weird intimacy to that connection. When I was more lucid, it occured to me that this kind of intimacy might be desirable to the right person, especially if the object of their affection was someone otherwise out of reach [as in the case of a celebrity-fan relationship]. The plausibility of someone infecting themselves with Angelina Jolie’s cold virus to feel physically connected to her got me thinking, and the film came out of that.
