Director: Patrick Keith

Starring: Lora Meins and Melissa Johnson

I was lucky enough to recieve a screener of “Bloodwine” from director Patrick Keith and after watching it I was pleasantly surprised.  We are flooded with so many unoriginal vampire movies that it is difficult to find one with a fresh viewpoint. “Bloodwine” delivers a great story of friendship with a vampire twist.

The plot centers around Brandy(Lora Meins) who moves into a dorm room with her good friend Andrea(Melissa Johnson). As the story gets rolling Andrea buys a birthday gift for Brandy from the mysterious Carmilla(Vanessa Leinani). The seemingly innocent gift of imported Romanian brandy is actually the catalyst that turns Brandy into a vampire. While Andrea is gone, Brandy sneaks a few drinks and becomes violently ill eventually turning into a creature of the night. As the story advances Brandy begins to seek revenge on Andrea’s enemies, Mercedes(Heather Whitsell) and her roommate Nicole(Christina DeYoung) who have been bullying Andrea and making her life Hell. As Brandy’s hunger for blood grows, so does the body count. Lora Meins is a refreshing vampire, think girl next door turned “Lost Boys”.  She is witty, seductive, and the best friend a girl will ever have. I loved Melissa Johnson’s performance as Andrea also. She has had a life filled with loss and pain only to have Brandy come back into her world and provide some happiness until she steps over to the dark side leaving Andrea’s life in shambles again. This film makes you ponder the question if you would make the ultimate sacrifice for your best friend. I don’t want to give to much away but do yourself a favor and give this film a watch. Hats off to Doom Bunny Films for creating a very entertaining film with a fresh new cast. Look for this film at festivals and conventions soon. Also watch for a cameo appearance by the Doom Bunny himself in the film.
