The first talk of David Fincher looking to direct a segment for a new ‘Heavy Metal’ animated film came back in March, from Variety. With Steve Niles (30 days of night), Kevin Eastman (Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles), and Neal Asher (Gridlinked) among the names involved with the film, it definitely seemed promising but Entertainment Weekly recently broke the news that Paramount Pictures has dropped the project.

EW’s Hollywood Insider had this to say.

Tim Miller, whose Blur Studio is handling the animation, says he and Fincher, along with current Heavy Metal publisher Kevin Eastman, are now shopping to other studios because Paramount’s new production execs felt the movie was too risque for mainstream audiences.

While the project has been stalled until a new studio is willing to pick it up, Miller remains confident. “David really believes in the project. It’s just a matter of time,” He tells EW.
