Guessing by the modest success of Marvel’s The Gunslinger Born, based off of Stephen Kings work in his Dark Tower world, Marvel is amping up a new King adaption, a full graphic version of The Stand, first issue expected to hit comic book stores this September. The adaption will be written by Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa (Sensational Spider-Man) and drawn by artist Mike Perkins (Captain America, http://www.mikeperkinsart.com) and will be based on the much thicker, uncut version of the book to give the most graphic detail possible to one of King’s masterpieces. Like Gunslinger, the series will be a limited run, and will be overseen by Stephen King himself.

The Stand is a thick and meaty apocalyptic horror story about a super-flu escaping a military base to wipe out around 99% of the world population. The survivors flock to two different people, a nice old woman that speaks comfort and hope, and a denim clad man by the name of Randall Flagg, who wishes to wipe out the rest of all that is good on the planet, using his inhuman trickery and broken promises. In its 1,000+ pages, we watch the human race brought to its knees, only to rise against the worst sides of itself and the evil trying to drive it to destruction.
