I had the very cool opportunity to chat with Derek Mears who is on set of the new “Friday the 13th” film playing the role of the new “Jason Voorhees”. Derek also played “Chameleon” in “The Hills Have Eyes 2″ and has starred in quite a few films and television shows. He has also done alot of stunt work on films suchs as “M. Night Shyamalan’s Signs” and “Pirates of the Carribean:The Curse of the Black Pearl”. Here’s what Derek had to say to my 10 questions.

1. Excluding the films that you have worked on,what is your favorite horror movie and why?

I have a hard time answering the “What is your favorite (blank?) questions. I can never decide. So, to answer your question, The Evil Dead & Friday the 13th series. Oh, and also Aliens.

2. Who is your favorite scream queen?

Jamie lee Curtis

3. What is the strangest thing that someone has asked you to autograph?

A picture of Margot Kidder.

4. If you could make a horror movie with any actor/actress, who would it be and why?

Ben Foster. He intensely freaks me out.

5. What was the first horror movie that you ever watched?

Growing up in Bakersfield I always would watch a creature feature show that aired old black and white horror films every Sunday. I’m not sure which was my first, but I will say that my first movie ever I bought was The Making of Micheal Jackson’s Thriller. I was blown away by the werewolf and zombies that Rick Baker created.

6. What director would you absolutely love to work with and why?

Guillermo del Toro. I am amazed by Guillrmo’s detailed attention to practical make-up effects and his cinematic storytelling.

7. What is your favorite band and favorite song?

Anything with Mike Patton. Faith No More, Mr. Bungle Peeping Tom, Tomahawk,…etc. My favorite song would be “Mojo” from Peeping Tom.

8. What is your favorite non-horror movie?

The Empire Strikes Back

9. When you’re not working, what do you do for fun?

I like to train MMA as a hobbyist, read comic books and play video games.

10. Are you working on any new projects that you would like to tell us about?

Yes, I am currently murdering campers here in Crystal Lake on the new Friday the 13th.
