Director Joe Dante will return to the horror genre with ‘The Hole’, a feature film about two brothers who move into a new house to discover a mysterious hole in the basement that seems to have no bottom, according to producer David Lancaster.
The Hole, which is now in preproduction, was scripted by Mark L. Smith (Vacancy), Lancaster (Starship Troopers 3) said in an interview.
The Hole is a co-production between Lancaster’s Bold Films (Legion) and BenderSpink (The Butterfly Effect).
Lancaster said that the hole in the film represents “the fear of the kids.”
Dante is also reportedly working on Bat Out of Hell, about a monster on a hijacked airliner. He is perhaps best known among horror fans for such 1980’s horror classics as Piranha, The Howling and Gremlins.
