The JAWS music made that even more enjoyable to read. It is one of my all time favorite films. =)

I personally blame this teeny bopper horror craze all on money, that is all anyone cares about anymore, especially the film industry and PG-13 will bring in way more bucks then R. It is not even because the film is popular or even good but it is about who can attend the film - and let me say that our threatres FILL to the brim when these PG-13 horror movies show, with teenages there only to scream and make out with one another. They do not give a rats bum about the movie, but still it makes money, and 'seems' popular when still it sucks.

Seb is right as well though, blood and guts dont make the movie good or bad - and R can suck and blows as much as any other rated horror film.

Rock on, friends!
Love,
~Baby

The bigger problem are ghost stories that are PG-13 where shit doesn't happen and relies on a terrible score.

GREAT Article!!!!

Brillant!

personally I blame the remake of The RING and The GRUDGE and also the REMAKE of Dawn of the Dead.
Really before the remake DOTD in 2004 a good Box Office for a HORROR movie wasn't really that High. (I mean honest to GOD GORE Horror) A 26 million opening in the US and only being in 2700 Theatres for DOTD opened a Floodgate of R Rated Horror Movies and Sequels over the years and I mean a FLOOD. Since 2004 market has been saturated and some of iot being so bad hasn't helped. But the thing is also at that time some stuidos noriced that all these R Rated Horror Movies were now sudden;y making GOOD money and there was still a whole Untapped dempgraphic of the younger teenage to tap into who couldn;t get into the R flicks.(And thats where alot ot movie dollars come from the younger teens) I really so think that the deline of the R rated movie is not on;y due to the dwindling box office but also because of the social climate (the WAR etc) The horrible Remakes and Sequeals and Sequels of Remakes. (I don't but care The Hills Have Eyes 2, and HOSTEL 2 just SUCKED and were totally not even in the same class as their predecessors) and theres also been alot of bad marketing lately also. (Diary of the Dead was only released in 42 (Yes thats 42) Movies Theatres in the USA with NO protion or marketing.

Yeah I agree, a film doesn't need to have blood & gore. I believe I even wrote that in the article. But I'm using PG as a general term for these plastic teeny shit story shit acting new horror movies that are being released in abundance these days.

Regarding your first point, I just never saw horror as a genre that was made to appeal to most people. But the whole point is money means more so the genre will suffer for this fact.

Cheers for the comments! :)

Surely if PG and PG13 horror are earning money, while R is not, its a sign that our favourite horror is in fact not popular, and not worth producing. I can't really see a problem with studios putting out horror that it seems most people want to watch.

I also don't see blood and gore as some kind of be-all and end-all way to get the movie to be good. Personally I think that an R-rated horror film can suck as bad as any PG rated Disney horror.

Great article. I disagree with it, but great article.
