Columbia Pictures, a division of Sony, has agreed to a deal that will have them producing a series of films based on the highly successful, young teen oriented “Goosebumps” books. Written by R. L. Stine, 62 books were released between 1992 and 1997, with sales reported to be in excess of 300 million copies.
The books frequently homaged classic horror films such as Night of the Living Dead, Invasion of the Body Snatchers, Magic, and Phantom of the Opera. Stories often contained twist endings similar to episodes of Alfred Hitchcock Presents… or The Twilight Zone.
The books have previously been adapted into board games, video games, and a TV series. No writers or release dates have been announced, but the plan is to cast unknowns as the teen “stars” with the smaller adult roles being filled with known character actors, a la Harry Potter.

Follow-up comment rss or Leave a TrackbackI read some of the first few books. Young teen oriented? I thought it was tame for 5th grade ;p. I easily see the Harry Potter comparison. Both were in the same field, in my opinion.
Anyone remember Pule novels from before Goosebumps? One was called Blind Date that I specifically remember reading in like 7th grade. It was written by RL Stine but not Goosebumps.
I liked these in grade school. The TV series was pretty bad.
Night of the Living Dummy was the shit! Move over Chucky!
Are you talking about Fear Street Blud?
Hmmm yknow I’m not sure haha - I meant Pulse novels. In my haste I made a spelling error. Because I’m in Australia (why am I ALWAYS referring to this??) maybe they renamed the series of novels. They were out around the early 90’s for young teens. Alot of R.L. Stine novels came out at that time! GOddamit… memory… so… sketchy… eccch.
