Perhaps the headline should be rephrased to ask a less obvious question, such as, “When did Bloody-Disgusting Sell Out?” because it clearly happened long before today’s announcement that they will be hosting a website for Michael Bay’s Platinum Dunes production company.  It is now crystal clear why such non-news stories such as sightings of Jason’s new look are posted on that site, without any actual elaboration or information other than “It looked awesome!”.  The studio propaganda machine has been going strong for some time now.  Today’s news simply confirmed what we have long suspected.  It is all about money for Bloody-Disgusting.  Money buys hype and good reviews.

This is a sad day for horror fans on the internet.  Not because of the death of a loved one, but because of the betrayal of a loved one that we are just now learning about.  How long have we been lied to and cheated on?  What was the truth and what was nothing more than a studio plant?  How many “Exclusive Reviews” have been embellished?

Was this quote from Mr. Disgusting on June 6, 2006 his true feeling? “I love Jason Voorhees and I love the Friday the 13th franchise, but seriously, are any of them really that good (with the exception of Jason Lives)? So it must come as no surprise that when New Line Cinema announced the quasi-remake of Friday the 13th with Platinum Dunes, I was excited - extremely excited.”.  Now that Mr. Disgusting is affiliated with Platinum Dunes, anyone want to wager on whether or not the review of the new Friday flick is positive?  Anyone?  I didn’t think so.

There is also the obvious hyping of Jason’s look in the film.  After a misleading headline that would have the reader believe the look of Jason in the new film will at least be described, the reader is left with empty rhetoric assuring them they will love it.  (April 20)  Is that reporting, or hyping?  You be the judge.

Others have also raised questions in the past about Mr. Disgusting hyping up certain films.  In his April 4th article, Stephen Schaefer mentions very suspicious quotes from Mr. Disgusting being used to hype “The Ruins” on its TV trailer.  Mr. Disgusting was credited with calling the film, “Intense”, “Disturbing”, and a “Nightmarish Spectacle”, despite the fact it was not screened for critics.  Isn’t that convenient?

Lets get back to the Platinum Dunes connection for a minute, shall we?  Back in October 2006, Platinum Dunes dropped a stunningly average horror flick on the world known as “Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning”.  The film was not screened for critics in general, but Mr. Disgusting was able to see it and was kind enough to contribute a flattering quote to the TV spot.  He called  it, “One of the Most Terrifying New Horror Films Ever Made”.  Another gentleman named Brad Miska called it, “A Grisly New Masterpiece”.  Why did I bring up this Brad Miska fellow?  Because he is Mr. Disgusting.  The same person, contributes two different quotes, under different names, to shill for a production company we later learn he is in bed with.  I hope the money fills the space where your integrity once was, Mr. Disgusting.

Here is that TV spot:

So, where does this leave us?  Where we once had a website that we could turn to, to get solid and unbiased opinions and news, we are now left with a corporate shill.  Bloody-Disgusting has become the Fox News Network of the horror world, and Mr. Disgusting is its Bill O’Reilly.  If Michael Bay ever runs for President of the United States, I think we know he can count on Mr. Disgusting’s support.
