I seriously had to consider whether or not I wanted to continue to watch the show after they killed off Ned. To me, he was the driving force of the show and it was kind of deflating to know that he wasn't going to be around anymore and that he died in the disrespectful way that he did. I really wanted him to get his revenge after they locked him up and then made him lie to save his own life, which didn't end up happening. That was some bullshit.
They already killed off the only reason I took interest in the fucking show! Bah!
I agree but the show does seem to have a plan and it's not some gimmick just thrown in just for ratings. I'll trust for now.
I'm taking a wait-and-see approach.
I felt the same way when the let Khal Drogo die so quickly. I wanted to see him do alot more killing. But that allowed the Khaleesi to take total control and assert her will for this coming season I guess. Ned getting killed is the flashpoint for the war to start but I wish they would have taken a different route because he was great. I can't wait to see te boy king get what's coming to him.

I hope the little girl kills Joffrey.
That would be awesome.
It's an awesome series, but there are going to be a lot of characters marginalized/killed off as a matter of principle, I think. the actual books (the very long ones that have taken years to write) are very complex.
I don't mind them killing off other characters, just not Ned. His story is what they used to build the first season, to suck you in. They weaved a great revenge plot with a great character, only to have no payoff. Just ain't right.

Yeah, but if Ned doesn't die, then there is no war. Which kind of undoes the bulk of the coming storylines.
The bit that I thought was more "annoying" was that they had a great opening sequence in teh very first episode full of reanimated dead corpse monsters killing, and then we don't see them again for the whole series, at all.

There's a few different ways they could of gone to provoke a war, like killing off one of Ned's boys for instance. At least Ned would have still been around to exact his revenge. Now all we're left with is his wife and kids.
Yeah, there definitely could have been some more dead corpse monsters. I'm guessing we're gonna get our wish with season 2.
