Yeah, never got into Escape either. I find that one to be the blemish on Ride The Lightning. Luckily, the rest of the album kicks enough ass to make up for it. I think "Fight Fire With Fire" is one of their more underrated ones.
Yeah, Fight Fire With Fire was a great song to kick off the album. I dug Trapped Under Ice as well. Just a cool, fun little thrash anthem that doesn't get much respect.

I've changed my favourites so many times I don't think I can say which ones I like the most anymore. I mean I started off knowing nothing about metal and the like until I was about 13. Before that I was mostly into the music my dad listened to. Lots of 1960s stuff, classical music, opera, and the occasional strange bits and bobs that I no doubt got from various places. Got a Rammstein album that I listened to a lot, and then my teacher recommended I check out Metallica.
First Metallica album I listened to: Garage Inc.
Yes, an album that wasn't even their songs. I slowly evolved into a more well-rounded Metallica fan, and now I think I have every single album on my iPod. Have bought most albums outright, rather than download them.
Favourite 20 songs currently (as in ones I listen to often right now):
No Leaf Clover (S&M)
Hero of the Day (S&M version)
One
Unforgiven (I II and III, III being my favourite at the minute)
Whiskey In the Jar
53rd and 3rd (Ramones Tribute)
The Memory Remains (both S&M verion and album version)
Call of the Ktulu (both S&M and album version, S&M preferred)
Enter Sandman
Nothing Else Matters
St. Anger
All Within My Hands
Suicide & Redemption
The Outlaw Torn
Battery
All Nightmare Long
Crash Course in Brain Surgery
Orion
Welcome Home (Sanitarium)

It's a good one. I think my list spans the most albums.

Ride the Lightning or Master of Puppets?
I seem to be one of the few who prefers RTL. Escape is a blemish on RTL and MOP has no such blemish, but I feel that RTL has more classic songs than MOP. They're both two of my favorites by a mile though.
What say all of you?

I still don't know what you guys are on about with Escape. Sure, it's between it and Trapped Under Ice for the weak link, but I think it's a toss up and both are decent enough, I have no problems letting them play. And Escape has the catchier chorus. In fact, I'd probably say Escape > Trapped Under Ice by a hair.
Oh, and MOP, imo, tbh.

What say all of you?
1. Master Of Puppets
2. Ride The Lightning
3. And Justice For All
4. Metallica
5. Death Magnetic
6. S&M
7. Load (quite a few I don't care for, but there's a bunch I like too)
8. Kill'em All (obviously, I'm not a hardcore thrash fan, but there are some on here I thoroughly enjoy anyway)
9 Garage Inc.
10. Reload (barely a handful I like)
...
11. St. Anger

What's wrong with escape? I don't mind it at all. Perfectly good song. I like it as a tune. Had certainly not thought of it as a weak link.

Trapped Under Ice is awesome. It's classic raw thrash at its finest. Escape seemed like a failed attempt to make a commercial hit. The chorus, in particular, has always grated on me. It's so damn cheesy.

| I think I like Ride the Lightning a little more than Master of Puppets, looking at the track list. But not by much. Both are still good.

My favorite Metallica cover:

They should have replaced Escape with this, cover or not, tbh.

Looks like you've cooled off on DM.
I have a little bit, but I still love it. It's not classic mid 80s Metallica, but oh well.

I don't know, maybe a little. It doesn't have the time and amount of times played, though. I do love me the classic Metallica tunes with the orchestra, and I've listened to the covers and such off of Garage a lot, had to put that in perspective.

I think I'd struggle to really rank the albums. I know S&M is one of my favourites, as is Garage Inc. But on any day they could all overtake eachother.
Today, I'd probably say:
1. S&M
2. Death Magnetic
3. Garage Inc.
4. Metallica
5. Ride the Lightning
6. Master of Puppets
7. Reload
8. St. Anger
9. ....And Justice For All
10. Kill Em All
11. Load

Is there any news about a new Metallica album? I'm hungry for some more metal...

The Unforgiven sung by monks is pretty epic.

I love Gregorian Monks. They lend themselves well to Metallica too.

Perhaps the best version for you guys.
