Some feel it's their only genuine thrash album.
And I'd agree with them. Luckily, I don't love them as just a thrash band and can enjoy their forays into Metal and Hard Rock. Well, mostly. I can't really listen to St. Anger, not because of the song writing, but the sound recording. Horrible sound.

St. Anger is terrible. The entire band was a mess at the time.

I actually like the writing on some like Frantic, Unnamed Feeling and All Within My Hands. They just needed MUCH better recording and refining (cause they still sounded very rough-drafty).

The album is loaded with shitty hickory dickory dock lyrics. It doesn't sound like Metallica at all.

Except everything They've been much bigger within the past 20 years, than the prior ten.
Now if you said "produced anything" that meant anything...you'd be closer on the money with only few exceptions.
Oh, come on now, Wolfie--you know what the fuck I meant.

The most underrated for sure. It's a shame it's never on anyone's lists.

I thought Invisible Kid was pretty shitty as well. And Mama Said is not my cup of tea either.

And I would add Holier Than Thou and Sweet Amber to that list.

I was thinking the same thing when I glanced at the side at the other videos! Ha!

I actually sort of like Holier Than Thou, but yeah, Sweet Amber is shit. So's My World. If there was one on the Black Album I didn't like it was Struggle Within. Just felt like leftovers that didn't gell anywhere slopped together just cause they had room.

Oh yeah, Struggle Within was lame as hell. That album would have been better off with the traditional 8-9 songs IMO. There are a few songs I could really have done without on The Black Album.

You know what the worst thing about those St. Angers songs is? They're fucking long. Invisible Kid is 9 minutes of pure shit. There's nothing worse than a shitty song that drags on and on and on...

Mhmmm. 8-9 minutes, and no guitar solo in fucking sight either.

My least favorite from Metallica's golden era is Escape. Just never got into it at all. Still better than just about anything off of St. Anger.

Yeah, never got into Escape either. I find that one to be the blemish on Ride The Lightning. Luckily, the rest of the album kicks enough ass to make up for it. I think "Fight Fire With Fire" is one of their more underrated ones.
