Since a remake of Evil Dead was first announced a few years back there have been some terrible (ok all of them were terrible) suggestions for who to replace Bruce Campbell with. Ashton Kutcher being the worst suggestion.

While watching Drag Me to Hell for the 50th time, it occured to me, if I had to see an Evil Dead without Bruce Campbell, I think Justin Long would be a great replacement. He has leading man presence, can be serious, but more often than not is a goofball and his comedic deliveries are always spot on. Having seen just how he fits in a Raimi movie, I think he'd be an awesome replacement.

However, I'd still much rather see Evil Dead 4 with Bruce as Ash, since the idea of replacing him is something I'm about as eager about as seeing  Englund replaced as Freddy Krueger.

I dunno man, I just can't see anyone replacing Bruce as Ash. I don't mind Long, but I still can't see him as Ash. Possibly the goofy idiot from the first film, but not the badass(yet still a goofy idiot :P) that he becomes.

Justin....Long....?

I'm having a pretty hard time picturing it. I guess like the way Ash is in the first film is possible, like Slaughter said.

Whoever they pick is going to have to make it their own otherwise they'll just come across as a third rate Bruce, So I guess Long is as good as anybody.

Two people come to mind. Either one can play the comedy or the badass angle fairly well.

One you'll all hate, the other might have a shot.

Ryan Reynolds
Nathan Fillion

I'm one of the few people that actually likes Ryan Reynolds.  That said, his style of comedy doesn't fit all that well with Ash, but he might be able to pull it off.  The badass part, while he is beefy, I dunno if it'd work.

And I just hate Fillion. :P

I like both of them and I'd still avoid the flick like the plague if either of them were to replace Bruce.  :p

i think that if they just have to do an evil dead remake that there should be another main character, not ash. then i'd be okay with it.

But then it'd be more like a sequel in that it'd be about other characters getting fucked at the cabin.

hmm.... if they called it simply evil dead, there would be no mistaking it as a sequel.

They would. As Sam clarified on the commentary track "Alot of people wonder is this a remake, or is Ash really that stupid that he'd go back to the same cabin again? And the answer is yes he is."

I for one never thought of it as a remake. I do call it the Holy Trilogy.. Some have argued with me about it though... like why would he go back ? why did he not mention his first gf killed? why did he not remember the book and recording? But mostly why would he go back and why would he play the recording again to start it all over.

The only way i think it would be a decent movie and not a remake would be to have Ash have a kid, kinda like Indy Jones, and have him goto the cabin or something along that line..just my opinion though
