Ginger Snaps

Recto GINGER SNAPS (58Ko)

bullet

(Reviewed by canadianmovieman) - Ginger Snaps is a movie mainly about werewolves, but it's also about alot more then that. Its also a character study, twistedly funny, and very very great!

In the movie, Bridgette (Emily Perkin's, who should be in more movies) and her sister Ginger (Katherine Isabelle, who should also be in more movies, not just Freddy vs Jason, it was a good movie but they kinda killed her off a bit quick for my liking) are rebels against society, outcasts, and the best of friends. They share everything with each other, things they wouldn't tell her mom, Pamala. (Played by Mimi Rogers, yes Mimi Rogers, i still can't believe she agreed to do this film for some reason!) One night, taking advantage of the dog killings that are going on in town, the sisters go out and plan a prank against one of the queen bitches at there school, on the way there, they find another dead dog, thats still warm, and all of a sudden, out of no where, Ginger gets here period (that is kinda important if you've seen the movie and get it's social commentary that going on here.) and then the werewolf strikes, in a very suspenseful, thrilling, and scary sequence, and its all ended by a drug dealer, named Sam (Kris Lemche)  runs the werewolf over with his van. (and he split that baby into bits to! The wolf, not the van!) After the werewolf attack, all of seemingly fatal wounds that ginger has already start to heal, and everything from that point on starts to change. Ginger starts being more bitchy and mean to her sister, she also  starts to really like boys, (she wasn't a lesbian before, she just didn't like any body) and takes advantages of big time big time. and after a while she starts getting really violent with people, like kicking people's asses during gym class just because the queen bitch hit her. All of this is happening because she's turning into a werewolf.

Now this movie I think was the best werewolf movie since American Werewolf in London, probably better. This movie was so great in terms of the balance of the comedy, the drama, and the horror. There are only a few moments in this movie that has balls to the wall horror, but when the happen, they shine, because while we were waiting for the horror moments to happen, we are intrigued by the characters and got to know them a little better. I especially love how these girls are obsessed with death and how they take suicide pictures of themselves, and the mother, as giddy and so full of life she is, just lets it go! I also like the part where Ginger accidentaly infects another person and Bridgette is giving her crap for is and Ginger just says "...oops!" funny stuff. This movie also uses the effect where sometimes what you don't see is scarier then what you do see. (which is bull crap in some movies but works very effectively in this movie.)

Overall, out of a rating ranging from Great, Good, Fair, Bad, and Horrible, (or 1-5, whatever) I'm giving this movie a GREAT (5) because it revives a seemingly dead monster, and makes it live again to a great extent, its that damn good!
