Rise is pretty much shit. It barely even makes sense if you question it even the slightest bit. And lots of fan service that actually failed, because fans didn't want it. I recommend watching the CinemaSins video on it to get an idea of most of the idiocy going on in the film if you don't plan on watching it.

My hatred has tainted Force Awakens and The Last Jedi too now I lump it all together. Yoda was right. Fear led to anger, anger led to hatred and hatred led to suffering. I feared retelling A New Hope with a gender swap and calling it a by a new name was the beginning of the end. I was angry that this is the path they chose. I hate what they did to the franchise and now I'm suffering because something I loved was shit on.

gender swap implies that the character was originally a man. like starbuck from the original battlestar to the newer version. this is not the case for star wars. but that aside, can we move past a female character being the lead as the problem, or part of the problem? cause again, the updated starbuck was awesome. it's about bad writing, bad execution (supposing that's how you feel, cause some don't) and not just that a woman is the lead.

yeah, it was new characters doing more or less a repeat of a new hope, on a basic plot level. that's true.
