I recommend “The Monster Show” by David J. Skal that touches on this covering the past 100 years.

i've seen plenty of recent movies that don't shove politics down my throat. there is an element of that, sure. but the 80s had a lot of politicking going in the movies, and we all love that decade. *shrug*
Which movies?
do you like rocky 4?
Obv.

None of it is forced down your throat. Are you arguing it's not far more prominent today with an "in-your-face" approach?

Horror, overall, is pretty good about not being political. But I guess when it comes down to it, you could find something political in everything.

And it's usually always leftism. :p

I would say the biggest difference is you recognizing it. Perhaps you would have made similar arguments in past decades if you’d lived through them.

it was all over rocky 4. it was all over the exorcist. *shrug* i think we pick up on it and rebel against a certain kind of politics, more, because of the political climate lately, as a whole.

I probably would have. But I am a huge Bond movie fan. I only lived through the last ten movies or so. They kind of maintain the same political climate and I haven't noticed anything very "in-your-face".

On the other side, I watched along as Supernatural progressed. It started getting political around season 7 or so. Then after Trump's election it turned into a political shit show to appease the execs of CW...

you don't see the politics as negative or overt, because you're just enjoying the film. awesome. i have that same experience with a lot of film today.

I wouldn't say it was all over The Exorcist, by any stretch. Are you talking about the part where she's acting in that scene as an activist?

Outside of “wrap yourself in the flag” patriotism that was a hallmark of the 80s or rugged individualism that isn’t even really political, conservative ideals don’t translate well to film narrative the way liberal ideals do.

Like who wants to see a movie where the emotional crux is the tax rate being too high. Would never make sense.

People consider The Dark Knighjt trilogy to be considered Conservative.

The problem isn't conservatism translating into film, it's the fact that Hollywood is overrun with anti-conservative ideology.

Yeah, we'd all rather watch Jimmy cut his dick off, walk around in a dress and get handshakes from everyone for being brave.

That isn't political more so than religion vs science. There are tons of deeply religious liberals. That's a different scenario.

you're the one that's making a distinction between political ideologies. i didn't say it wasn't liberal.
