I've never wavered. I think the original Texas Chain Saw Massacre is the best horror film ever made.
When I was big on making lists like 10-15 years ago, Psycho was generally on top. Re-Animator, The Evil Dead, Halloween kinda rounded out the top 4, I think. TCSM was definitely in the top 50 if I ever made one.
Today, though. After letting all these movies sit for so many years, wisdom and experience settling in, my choice is probably Friday the 13th IV: The Final Chapter. The ultimate slasher film in the ultimate horror franchise.
It's a good pick. I like 2 & 3 more, but 4 is kinda the defining slasher movie IMO.
Friday is just the GOAT movie franchise for me. In any genre. The run of quality from 1-6 are unmatched by any other franchise.
I choose to compartmentalize and consider The New Beginning to be the last legit installment. So I agree. Five very good movies in a row.
On HMF there's always been the "1-5" and the "1-6" guys.
I'm a 1-6, guy. I first saw them all as a young teen, riding my bike to the video store and renting them on VHS. Originally, 6 was my favorite. I just loved how Jason was portrayed. Overtime, the goofiness kind of dropped it down the list and is possibly last place in 1-6. But it'll always be special to me.

Yup. Pretty good. Pretty fun. I never feel like I have to choose between the two either. Very different movies.

i thought we all had our own favorite? mine is nightmare on elm street.
It's hard for me to pick a favorite. There are quite a few I've loved as if they were #1. Many I feel are still deserving.
what are your top 10? how many do you love as if they're the #1?
I don't have a top ten. It's too hard to rank at this point.
Randomly...
Halloween, The Evil Dead, Phantasm, Re-Animator, The Fog, The Thing, Sleepaway Camp, Near Dark, Silent Night Deadly Night, among many others...
all respectable films. a couple make my 10 too.
A Nightmare on Elm Street goes without saying...

I know. One of the rare high-ranking 80s horror flicks I've never got around to seeing.

Actually here's the deal. It's my birthday weekend, I didn't plan shit since I was supposed to deal with the fallout from surgery, but since they shitcanned that, I'm on ER watch, so I can think of nothing better than to spend it with you beautiful people. Reign's Weekend, come one come all, we will group sesh some shit, listen to some tunes, partake in your favorite party favors. Keep it loose, nothing planned but the Departed so far.

You having surgery? You okay?
Also happy birthday! I'm saying that now because I watched The Departed once. That was enough.

*prints out a copy of the cover to chloe moretz' version* no need to come my way.

I really liked that remake!
I liked it...until they totally botched the entire prom sequence. I really liked Moretz as Carrie and Julianne Moore as her mom.

The Gate and The Blob are the two new watches I'm most excited for. The Gate is likely gonna be my first viewing of the challenge.

Most of the FX hold up very well too. I plan on getting the Scream Factory edition when it comes out.

The Blob. Considering how low budget The Gate is, its FX hold up surprisingly well too.
