It can't be easy to try an attempt a remake of such an iconic film. Dario Argento stylistic masterpiece is a full assault on the senses. Dream like technicolor visuals and the magnificently haunting sounds of Italian rock band Goblin create a beautiful and unsettling atmosphere that is quite effective and eerie. This atmosphere really covers up the short comings mostly the thin plot of Suspiria. That's where the remake falls terribly far behind. The original is such a feast for the senses you are willing to forgive it's other failings. Luca Guadagnino's vision just doesn't work for me . There is a more in depth plot but it isn't a good thing because it's boring. An extra hour of boredom pushes this to a sadistic 2hr 32 minutes. Tilda Swinton is decent she's far to talented not to be but why is she 3 people? What was the point of that were they saving money because it served no other purpose. Thom Yorke does an ok job with the music but it pales to Goblin. Suspiria should not have been remade it's far to unique of a film. It's a perfect mixture of unique ingredients that can never be duplicated. I give Suspiria (2018) a grade of C-. There are a few cool scenes but it was a chore to finish and the payout did not warrant putting in the time.
